The first page reads simply “Once upon a time…”, so each child can put themselves in it. Three oak tiles give the story somewhere to go, a fourth tile of your choosing waits in the bag, and The End brings everyone home. The fourth can be the magic tile in purpleheart, its path, its stars and its moon gilded by hand in 24ct gold leaf, or a fourth oak tile.

Nothing doubled. Played the game? Iron and vinegar ebonise the oak so only the engraved lines turn black, and Osmo hardwax oil finishes it. The magic tile, if you choose it, is purpleheart, its path, its stars and its moon gilded by hand with genuine 24ct hand-beaten gold leaf, laid on a food-safe, child-safe size straight onto the wood, with nothing over it. Every piece has an arrow joint, so any tile joins any other.

Pre-order

Made to order in our Wiltshire workshop and posted from 1 December, in time for Christmas.
